Working visit: 15. 07. 2012 - 15. 07. 2012

David Tshepo Maponyane was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1984. He studied the art of painting, carving and sculpturing on his own. He’s collaborated with various artists and his works have been exhibited along with those of his colleagues in South Africa. However, David’s first exhibition that featured works of other artists took place in Bali, where he finished his one-year training at the Institute Seni in 2011. His exhibition Dawn of a New Era features 16 of his works, all of which deal with the degradation of the environment.

David’s artifacts created during his stay at the Studio Asylum were presented on Trg brez zgodovinskega pomena and Hostel Celica as part of the exhibition The Green Art Revolution that focused on environmental awareness. Artifacts consisted mainly of metal barrels that were transformed into trash cans, which were later painted over and thus given a new form and look. His painting Day Meets Sunset in the acrylic technique, which shows police brutality over Marikana’s miners in 2012, was presented as well.
