Erotic and porn film screening

XXX Until Dawn!

Hot cheeks, sweaty palms, heavy breathing, pulse racing, wet spots in the underwear... The sweetest thing. But will the orgasmic revolution be televised or do we have to do-it-ourselves? If pornography is the art of endless repetition, then what does the alternative look like? Who's got the power to turn you on? Is the queer idea of explosive, borderless relations naive, exclusive or truly liberating? Does private have to be political and who cares if you come or not? We do!

Come to Red Dawns' erotic and porno films screening and see for yourself. By exploring sexual fantasies and realities, rather than their generic – and gendered – definitions, the program is going to present a variety of both amateur and professional, explicit and poetic, documentary and fictional, queer and straight films that deliberately ignore, resist, laugh at or comment on what the mainstream porn industry has to offer.

The film program was selected by the Red Dawns team in cooperation with film selectors, directors, fans and theorists to whom we are profoundly grateful for their advice. We thank Jennifer Lyon Bell, Eliza Steinbock, Tim Stüttgen, Eva Kietzmann, Eva Egermann, Lana Zdravković, Erika Doucette, MP5 and Rosa Reitsamer. We are especially grateful to all film directors who contributed their works to the program free of charge.

Friday's film screening will be introduced by the selectors, Anna Ehrlemark and Tea Hvala, in discussion with Lana Zdravković.

Entrance fee: 2 €

SCREENING PROGRAM

Dayna McLeod (Canada): Watching Lesbian Porn (2001, 10'18'')
Dayna knows her queer-feminist porn film festivals and the potential embarrassment that happens when you realize things are getting a bit hotter than you expected. No need to worry, there's plenty of things to think about to distract yourself from the actual thing, and Dayna will guide you through the experience...

Dayna McLeod is an edgy woman from Montreal (who already visited Ljubljana and City of Women in 2006). In her artistic, theoretic and most often humouristic explorations she's known to mix all possible disciplines. Interests: sexual identity construction, gender, girl culture, feminism, anti-feminist backlash, femininity, lesbianism, homophobia, and media representations of sexuality, queer identity, and everything female...

Jennifer Lyon Bell (The Netherlands/USA): Headshot (Blue Artichoke Films, 2006, 9'00'')
Can a sex scene be hot, even if you can’t see the sex? Originally inspired by the 1963 Andy Warhol film Blowjob the erotic documentary Headshot portrays an intense, shared sexual encounter of a woman and a man in which we see only one participant – a leather-jacketed young man.

Jennifer Lyon Bell is the creative force behind Blue Artichoke Films and one of the co-organisers of X-Rated, Amsterdam's own porn film festival. She’s a Harvard graduate with a BA in Psychology, an MA in Film Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a lifelong passion for understanding sexuality. Her newest film Matinée just came out!

Emilie Jouvet (France): The Apple (2008, 6'00''), Blind Porno (2005, 3'30'')

The Apple (2008, 6'00'')
Eve wakes up in Paradise, finds an apple…and commits a delicious sin. In this short porn video, Émilie Jouvet has managed to recreate the atmosphere of pin-up movies, but her Bettie Page is not only a blonde, and famous writer and performer Wendy Delorme, she also re-invents mythology.

Blind Porn (2005, 3'30'')

Love is blind, but not deaf...

Émilie Jouvet is a French photographer and filmmaker whose personal, artistic, and political work shows her friends and lovers in their intimacy, far away from the clichés of standard gay representations. Her first feature (romantic-queer) porn movie – One Night Stand – won the first prize at the Berlin Porn Film festival 2006. Jouvet's second full length film Underground, Paris to Berlin is coming out soon.

Girls Who Like Porno (Spain): La Bestia (2005, 2'20'')
“Natural” beauty caught on film. Or, in GWLP's words: “Pornography can be something else. And it is in our hands that it be something else. In our hands and in our cameras. Because if we don’t like what we see, we can film something different. Do it yourself.”

Girls Who Like Porno visited Ljubljana and City of Women in 2007 where they held one of their do-it-yourself-porn workshops. No post-porn film screening would be complete without them! The original duo, Águeda Bañón and Maria Llopis, has split up, but Maria continues to create x-rated d-i-y videos on http://mariallopis.com.

Arantxa Martinez (Spain): J (2007, 4'00'')
Unlike traditional striptease, video performance J is more interested in the act of undressing than in total nudity. The video attempts to subvert the collective folkloric imaginary of la jota, a Spanish popular dance, in favor of an alternative feminine identity within that same imaginary.

Shine Louise Houston (USA): The Crash Pad (Pink and White Productions, 2007/08, odlomek)
An impressive amount of people agrees that Shine Louise Houston is making the hottest queer porn in the world! The premise of The Crash Pad series is simple: there’s an apartment, and if you’re lucky enough to be given the key, you can let yourself in… and let yourself go. The Crash Pad is amazingly hot hardcore indie feminist dyke porn, sure to appeal to anyone who likes seeing gorgeous women do wonderfully nasty things to one another.

As the pioneering producer and director of Pink and White Productions, Shine Louise Houston has always had unique vision. Graduating from San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art Film, her works have become the new gold standard of adult cinema.

Chel White (USA): Soulmate (2000, 14'00'')
Eerie, erotic, and touching, Soulmate is a complex study of alienation and sexual obsession; a creepily evocative film about voyeurism. Told from the point of view of a 55-year old woman, it explores longing and objectification through the unconventional story of a landlady and her younger male tenant.

Chel White has been making films independently for over twenty years. His work explores love, obsession, alienation, memories, and dreams. He uses allegory and frequently black humor to paint indelible pictures of the human experience. His narrative films are often told from the perspective of the estranged individual, the outsider looking in. With a background in experimental film and animation, his short films consistently defy categorization.

Barbara DeGenevieve (USA): Love Hotel (2009, odlomek, 4'14'')
The excerpt shows a kinky but tender butch-femme smut scene – or two out of five orgasms as promised and experienced in the 3 Shorts series.

Barbara DeGenevieve likes to play with the vulgar, low-class, low-brow language of traditional porn. She is an interdisciplinary artist who works in photography, video, and performance. She lectures widely on her work as well as subjects including sexuality, gender, transsexuality, censorship, ethics, and pornography. DeGenevieve is currently a professor and chair of the Department of Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

KeriOakie (USA): Phineas Slipped (2002, 16'16'')

A beautiful schoolboy-fantasy-come-true-in-an-instant kind of porno film.

Oakie Treadwell alias KeriOakie is a San Francisco based filmmaker. His films challenge the fixity of binary gender categories and are meant to instigate social change and create confusion. Phineas Slipped is his first film (made under the name KeriOakie). He is currently in post-production on a new film, Maggots and Men.
