KD FANTAZIJA DRUGAČNE VRSTE: SKRITO: SPOL Thursday, March 8th at 21.00, Menza pri koritu Theatre play Theatre play Skrito: spol is based on Kate Bornstein’s drama Hidden: A Gender. Her play mimics American talk-show narration and follows protagonists Herman and Herculine through the battle field of their gendered identities in order to bring us to a trans-gendered sphere where people are no longer prisoners of their sex. Offering an emancipatory promise of a world where gender serves our needs, Hidden: A Gender shifts from the fatal discursive significance of the so-called biologic sex to a more libratory discourse of socially constructed gender identity in constant flux. By refusing stereotypes of already existing identities, people in Hidden: A Gender are no longer men or women – they are becoming complex human beings. Hidden: A Gender dramatizes many concerns of contemporary queer theory. Its interactive approach invites the viewer to think of gender separately from thinking about one’s sexual orientation. As such, the play speaks of the negative but also the unthought-of consequences of a biologically defined gender in demise. Theatre group KD Fantazija drugačne vrste was founded in 2005. Since then, the group has organized two theatre workshops and produced four theatre plays – including Šminka (Lipstick) in 2005. Skrito: spol premiered in Kranj in May 2006. Their Ljubljana premiere in Gallery ŠKUC was sold out and the next performance at the 2006 LGBTIQ Pride Parade in Ljubljana was received with standing ovations.
